The first of Ithaca College’s five bullet points regarding the IC 20/20 mission is to “Encourage integration across IC’s five schools,” according to the college website’s “Office of the Provost” page. I can think of no better way to achieve this than through an increase of independent studies that are equally encouraged and supported across the five schools.

Love them or hate them, there’s no escaping musicals. Every year a film version of one, usually a rehashed version of a stage play, comes out (and somehow gets put in the category as the comedies during awards season).

For those of you who are not familiar with the National Hockey League lockout, here is a quick overview of what went on this season: The NHL cancelled 510 games of the 2012-2013 season because the owners and the players couldn’t agree on how to share the $3.3 billion in revenue earned every year. The lockout lasted from Sept. 15, 2012 to Jan. 12 of this year — lockout just being a fancy word for the players refusing to play any games until they reach an agreement with the NHL.

In 2006, the U.S. State Department designated Burmese refugees a “population of special humanitarian concern,” marking the beginning of a steady stream of Burmese refugees into the U.S.. In recent years, Burmese people have made up one of the largest group of refugees in the U.S.. According to the Burmese American Community Institute, between 2001 and July 2012, nearly 100,000 Burmese refugees resettled in the U.S., 100 of which live in Ithaca, N.Y.

There comes a moment in every student’s life where their school year is full of both math and health education homework. They begin to learn advanced concepts relating to the world of algebra and sex alike that can cause much confusion and intrigue. And at this time, they are left vulnerable to corruption through music television, the twitter, and raunchy shows on Adult Swim.

In 2010, approximately 12 per 100,000 people in the United States committed suicide. That same year, the suicide rate in county jails across the nation was three times greater than the general population. In New York state prisons, the inmate suicide rate was nearly double the national average.

There seems to be a very common misconception among the virgin population that losing one’s virginity is a magical and spiritual experience between two adolescents who are overcome by natural and sensual desires. Sadly, this “natural grace” that is expected to coincide with the de-virginization process is quite rare.

Various members of the Ithaca College community have expressed concern about discriminatory comments made in classrooms and across a campus that, in its diversity statement, claims to “commit ourselves to change, growth, and action that embrace diversity as an integral part of the educational experience and of the community we create.”

Almost six months have passed since that fateful day in August, when 80-year-old Spanish woman Cecilia Giminez “restored” a 120-year-old Jesus fresco into what largely resembles a hairy primate. While at first it appeared that Giminez had absolutely no idea as to why her creation offended hundreds of Spanish parishioners, a recent clueless and remorseful statement from the ‘artist’ had some theories about her mishap (though, not quite what the public was looking for).

Terror! When Americans are confronted with this word, the first thought that comes to mind may be Osama bin Laden. The word elicits visions of the World Trade Center, or possibly the war in Afghanistan.
