Joining Buzzsaw Magazine the fall of my sophomore year was one of the best decisions I made over my four years of college. I went to my first Buzzsaw meeting looking for a creative outlet as well as an extracurricular that felt like me. Writing for Buzzsaw always felt right. I was able to express myself, write freely, and was allowed space to be creative and contribute my ideas.
Later that same semester, I applied to the open position of Upfront Editor. To my shock and delight, I was selected and brought into a group of vivid and bold individuals. Together, the e-board and I collaborated during production weekend and to come up with ideas for future issues of Buzzsaw. I always looked forward to photoshoots because we all got to have fun and show more of our personality as we posed for both hilarious and super iconic-looking photos.
I served as the Upfront editor before becoming President of Buzzsaw during my senior year. This role has made me a better leader, creative, innovative thinker, and problem-solver. I’ve always known the influence of Buzzsaw on the campus community, and I wanted to bring the magazine to the next level. With the help of the passionate and innovative e-board, we were able to put on the first ever Buzzsaw event, The Buzzsaw Showcase. This past year we’ve had some EPIC photoshoots, edited together, and most importantly, laughed together.
I’m thrilled to have Alefiya Presswala take on the role of president next year. Her excitement for Buzzsaw, forward-thinking mindset, and experience as the first Vice President of Buzzsaw is something I’ve always admired and what leaves me confident that she will be an incredible President and leader.
I will miss the wonderful e-board members who I’ve gotten to know or who I’ve continued to get closer with this year. You’ve all been lovely and I’m so excited to see where Buzzsaw goes next. Lastly, I am thankful for having the opportunity to both write for and lead this magazine. During my three years with Buzzsaw, I’ve written pieces I’m extremely proud of. I never plan to stop writing, but I now feel emboldened to keep writing stories that still have their quirks, sillines, and fun attached.
Goodbye Buzzsaw! Thank you for everything.
