An Ode to The Neighborhood Pool by Chloe Zonis
Falling asleep in the sun at the pool
My best friend fell with me
We talked about the future
We gossiped with cicadas
We laughed because the British
Say it how it’s spelled
Colour
I imagine blue is the color of my soul
Artificial swimming water
Great uncontrolled waves
Silk scented mist
Written with the “E” before the “U”
Because I’m pretentious
And romantic
And calm
I appreciate the “L” before the “M”
Calm
I appreciate the warm
Sun
The seasons
Changing
The colour
Bleu
I carry aloe for burns
So I can appreciate this summer
Because I spent it
With her
Because I live it
With you.
