1. ANIMALS TALKING IN ALL CAPS
Anthropomorphism at its best: the blog features trendy but condescending zebras, an elk in a crown of leaves inviting you to her “solstice gathering” and a dejected wolf who’s recently realized he knows every word to every Ludacris song ever. This turtle is a personal favorite.
2. Album Tacos
Tumblr has quite a few brilliant PhotoShop blogs, among them Bea Arthur Mountains Pizza, Selleck Waterfall Sandwich, Diana Rainbow Cheese, Cheese People, Bread People…and the list continues.
In my mind Album Tacos emerges as leader not only because it’s run by some of the smartest kids online (Hood Internet–how awesome is that? “Good Ol’ Fashion Rump Shaker” is still a jam) but because it’s so subtle. I appreciate the level of detail these guys put into hiding tacos on certain album covers—Wolf Eyes’ Burned Mind, for example. (The original image is here.) Also I love tacos.
3. Eating Off the People’s Princess
Politically incorrect as it may be, the author’s commitment to crafting such brilliantly terrible puns indicates a heightened awareness of the complicated situations (read: scandals) that made Diana’s death and life so intriguing.
Bonus point: The food this guy puts on his commemorative plate always looks delicious.
Finally a place that refuses to acknowledge cats, dogs, and llamas as adorable, instead revealing them as the tool bags they are.
Subtitled: “Silly gifs of animals being jerks.”
After finding her ESL student’s photo caption assignments particularly entertaining Pony (a northern California woman who teaches English via Skype) began posting them and their corresponding images on Tumblr. (Her student—a girl living in Japan—wishes to remain anonymous but has expressed a desire to become “internet famous.”)
The captions make the blog, but Pony’s ability to select such bizarre photos undoubtedly stimulate her student’s offbeat (and nearly perfect) responses.
Honorable Mention: Angel Does Stuff (for Buffy fans).
