Buzzsaw Sports Guy: A satirical look at sports
A trip by a local news team to a nearby sports bar successfully depicted people watching a sporting contest for viewers at home, most of whom had also just watched the same game. When they weren’t watching the game on one of the televisions, the intoxicated bar attendants screamed at the camera about how their team was easily the best in the world. After hearing some rousing endorsements for the home team, the field reporter then came on camera and loudly announced that everyone in the bar had caught a fever from the local team, leading everyone in the crowded venue to cheer wildly. The reporter then interviewed a man with his face painted in the local team’s colors. He said the team had been “waiting a long time for this” and that “they deserved this more than anyone.” Interestingly, he used the term ‘we’ while describing the team even though he has never met anyone on it and likely never will. The end of the piece depicted everyone in the bar elated after a win by the home team, although a poll revealed that 95 percent of viewers already knew that and others didn’t care. The news package ran so long that the program had to cut a story about a 35-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run accident a few blocks away from the sports bar.
