1. Rill Rill by the Sleigh Bells
Want to feel some summer nostalgia? Maybe it’s just me, but this song screams hot weather and cool pools. Or maybe its just this video:
(That was actually shot by my brother! LOVE) Nonetheless, the tune is sure to put a smile on your face!
2. White Sky by Vampire Weekend
So I know the song isn’t brand new (most of these aren’t), but it is still my favorite song off Contra. It’s so happy and fun to listen to. Also, Ezra’s vocals during the chorus are undeniably brilliant. But don’t get it stuck in your head because when you sing it acapella, you will most definitely sound like a broken record. The video’s just the song, use your imagination.
3. Up Up and Away (The Wake & Bake Song) by Kid Cudi
When I first heard this song I thought Cudi was saying “I’ll be up on 8-0-8” And I couldn’t figure out what that meant! After looking up the lyrics, I realized “Up up and away” rather than “8-0-8” makes so much more sense and also makes the song that much better. The video is just the song, but that is all you need to enjoy this track.
4. Lake Michigan- Rogue Wave
When coming up with a “Top 5”, a friend suggested this song. Perfect! How can you not love Zach Rogue’s quick vocals that flow excellently with the melody. Even though I think the lyrics are about pollution (sad!), the song is still extremely upbeat. PLUS the video is also really sweet!
5. Foreground by Phoenix (but mostly by Brian Eno and Grizzly Bear)
So the band Phoenix decided it’d be cool (and it is), to create a site that features Grizzly Bear’s song Foreground and Brian Eno’s song Canon in D Major. The point? Press play on each video on the site (at separate times) and create a wonderful mash up. Adjust the volume on each song to make it your own! It hardly ever goes wrong. Just click here!
6. Bob Dylan- Lay Lady Lay
Just because.
